Frustrated

I'm mad at our insurance company.

For the most part, it's good. Once we pay that enormous deductible, it's not too much out-of-pocket.

But here's what makes me mad.....our doctor said we needed more test strips. Wrote the script....filled out the quantity override form....and insurance said......

No.

How dare they?! They don't know my child! They don't know the streak of highs we've had....the streak of lows.....we're doing basal tests.....Matthew actually likes to play outside and we have to check.......the list goes on and on.....

We need more strips! The child hasn't even been sick and we need more strips!

Of course, we can buy more strips (and we do) but those suckers are EXPENSIVE! One dollar a strip.

How dare our insurance company think that they know more than our doctor.

You know what bothers me the most?

Matthew is going to have to deal with these headaches for the rest of his life.

My endo. just gave me a slip the other day to get secondary insurance (medical assistance via the disability loophole). It's free insurance offered to children with type 1. I'm in a different state than you, so I don't know if this is only offered in certain states, but it's worth looking into.

Ugh! Don't get me started on the test strip issue...I hate that our kids, not only have to deal with this illness that seems to have a mind of it's own and make up it's own rules some days but they will have to fight to get what they need to take care of their basic health...I get your frustrations!

I hate dealing with insurance companies! Its so true... who do they think THEY are, that they can dictate what our kids do and don't need. *sigh*

Same story, different family Tracy. So sad. And frustrating to the max! (Wow. Did I just date myself back to the late 80's there?)

We deal, and are currently dealing with, the EXACT same problem with test strips. ARGH!

Oh, I will have to check out what Nikki is referring to .....

what a joke... I hate this for our kids. It's all about the bottom line to these insurance companies.

That is sooo not right. It didn't get approved after your MD ordered them??? Can he write a "letter of NEED"? That is how we got around it. They originally declined the extra strips and then the MD wrote a letter stating why more strips were needed.

We just got a letter today telling us they will be limiting our # of strips to 200 per month. That is 6 1/2 strips per day. We test an average of 12x a day. I am so upset about this. I feel your pain! I will be fighting this Monday morning to see what I can do about it. I don't want my son testing less and having complications due to highs and lows. Good luck with your "fight!"

I have been through the EXACT. SAME. THING! So Frustrating! My girls Endo wrote a prescription for us to get more strips per month and our insurance denied us...we tried to fight it but it was a no go for us.

Wishing you better luck then I had.

(((hugs)))
